Goals of this Article:
► To understand the common terms used by people using Zapier
► To know what is needed to setup the Zapier Integration.
► To be able to understand how to setup the Zapier Integration.
► To be able to make use of Zapier to connect the apps you know and love to build workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and save time.
What do you need to do to integrate Zapier with TryCall?
► You need a Zapier Account (Free Account or Paid)
► You need the API Key for the applications you want to connect with TryCall.
► You need a TryCall account with enough credits to run the campaigns (Note: Campaigns will be paused if there is not enough credits to perform the task)
► You need a Zapier Account (you can sign up on their website, www.zapier.com)
Let us start by explaining first what Zapier does.
Zapier is an online automation tool that connects your favourite apps, such as Gmail, Slack, MailChimp, Calendly, TryCall and over 1,000 more. You can connect two or more apps to automate repetitive tasks without coding or relying on developers to build the integration. Move info between your web apps automatically, so you can focus on your most important work. It's easy enough that anyone can build their own app workflows with just a few clicks.
For example, maybe you get a lot of email attachments in your Gmail account and you want to save them to Dropbox. Every time you get an attachment, you could open up the email, click on the attachment, and then save it to Dropbox. Or you can have Zapier automate this for you, saving you time and effort.
Do I need to sign up and pay additionally when using Zapier?
You have to be subscribed to them separately to use their application. They do provide a free service but you can subscribe for your business automation needs, they offer plans that scale based on how much you automate. Paid plans also include access to useful features like Multi-Step Zaps, downtime protection, and workflows that run more often. Visit their website for the Pricing and Plans.
Common Terms: Learn to Speak Zapier
Zap
A Zap is an automated workflow between your apps. For example, you may have a Zap that saves your Gmail attachments to Dropbox and another Zap that saves emails that you star in Gmail to a text file. Zaps consist of at least two parts: a Trigger and one or more Actions.
Trigger
A Trigger is the event in an app that starts the Zap. Once you set up a Zap, Zapier will monitor the app for that event. For the "Save Gmail attachments to Dropbox" example, you can receive a lot of emails through your Gmail account, but the Zap is not triggered until an email contains an attachment.
Action
The Action is the event that completes the Zap. For the Gmail to Dropbox Zap example, the action is saving the Gmail attachment to Dropbox.
Task
Each piece of data you run through your Zap counts as a task. That means if your Zap adds 100 emails to Dropbox automatically, your Zap just performed 100 tasks. Every task your Zap performs is another task that you don't have to do manually. It's important to keep in mind the number of tasks your Zaps run, because it helps determine what Zapier plan is best for you.
Let us get started
What we are about to discuss next is how to integrate TryCall with an Application.
There would be two ways to do this. We can use TryCall as the Trigger Application or as the application who performs the action.
(at this stage, we only have our action zap available. Trycall trigger Zap is still in development and being tested.)
Let us start with the basics
Zap
A Zap is a specific link between your apps you've connected on Zapier. For example, you can create a Zap where where you send an SMS Campaign by Simply adding a row in a google sheet.
Let us consider this Google sheet file.
(The names and all the details in this Dummy CSV is not an actual Person and these are non-existing phone numbers)
We want to trigger an action that will create an SMS Campaign every time I add a new row in this CSV File.
Under 1. Trigger App, we look for the Application we want to use which in this case is Google Sheets.
We choose the Trigger, New Spreadsheet Row.
Now we need to define the action that will happen once the trigger is activated. In this case we want to send an SMS to that Contact.
Under 2. Action we select TryCall as our Action application and select Send SMS under action.
Now you can connect your TryCall account and configure the Campaign.
Each column in that CSV can be used as a variable entry in your SMS Campaign.
So let us check what we have accomplished here. We created a Zap that will send an SMS message every time I add a new row in a Google spreadsheet.
You might ask what is the practical use of this?
Well Imagine you have 100 People you have to reach out to with variable information like Loan amounts, settlement dates etc. You have to compose 100 different kinds of SMS message and send them out one by one.
With this Zap, all you have to do is paste the details in a new row and the automation will compose that message with the variable info for that contact and send it to them after.
Now this is a very simple 2-Step Zap and can be done with a free Zapier Subscription.
More complex automation with Filters, delays and web hooks can be accomplished automating and connecting multiple zaps. The possibility is endless with this integration.
Feel free to reach out to us if you need to discuss anything regarding integration.
