A flash SMS is a type of text message that - without user action - appears directly and as full screen on the mobile phone.

Flash SMS appears directly on the main screen without user interaction and is not automatically stored in the inbox.

Flash SMS is useful in case of emergencies or if you want to send confidential information, such as a one-time password (OTP).

Benefits of using Flash SMS:

  • Users can't ignore your message because it appears full screen and the user actively needs to close it.

  • It's safer than standard SMS because the message isn't stored in the inbox.

  • In case the Flash SMS isn't supported by an operator or mobile phone, the message is still sent as a standard SMS.

  • Flash SMS are shown immediately on the receivers phone and do not disappear until the receiver has confirmed the message. This feature is perfect for messages that really have to be read by the receiver.

  • Flash SMS are not automatically saved in the phones memory. This is useful when sending information that should not be saved, like login credentials.

Limitations of using Flash SMS:

However, in case of multiple flash messages being sent, it's important to keep in mind that your users will only be able to see the last message they receive.

Also, the sender of the Flash SMS is not shown to the receiver so it is important to be clear in the content of the text message.

This SMS cannot be blocked, and ignored 'Do Not Disturb settings'.  This is an incredibly intrusive message please be responsible in using this emergency feature.
